Technical Theatre

I have spent a number of years working in technical theatre, progressing through Stage Management and Lighting Design to Production Management. I am currently production managing for Theatrical Emporium Productions, in addition to which I  have been production manager for eight other shows in the last year, including shows for Big Telly, Creation Theatre and The Cresset in Peterborough

I work on a freelance basis for several theatres and regularly work as the technical support for touring shows in receiving houses, most notable among these is the Vaudeville Theatre in London. The position has meant that I have extensive experience as a flyman for both hemp and counterweight houses and as an lx and sound operator. I have worked as a DSM on over thirty shows.

I regularly work at the National Centre for Circus Arts in London. The National Centre is a university teaching circus arts as a degree and is a member of the Conservatoire for Dance and Drama. I have stage managed a number of their in house productions, working with directors such as Michael Barnfather, and also the public performances done by their extensive youth development project including the National Youth Circus Event. Working in the circus is an enormous challenge as it requires a different set of principles to those of the theatre. The safety aspects are paramount and are directly related to the comfort of the artist which has given me a great deal of insight when dealing with performers of all disciplines.

I have also stage managed large scale shows. In the last couple of years I have worked on a production of Anything Goes and a new work entitled Carnival Dreams the Musical. Both of these shows had large budgets and a cast of more than thirty.  I am used to budgeting a show and also handling budgets once the show moves to production.

I have also recently done the relight and touring lx for The Onasis Project’s shows, Cloud Cuckoo Land and Live Canon and Company Stage Managed the international touring production of Sesame Street, Elmo Makes Music.

In the course of the last ten years I have worked on dozens of shows as a stage manager and lighting designer, as well as a casual technician, including having worked on a number of children’s shows. I am a qualified First Aider in the workplace and PASMA trained. I also have an enhanced DBS check with update service.
